In October 2023, Governor of California Gavin Newsom signed Senate Bill 616, a modification to the current statewide paid sick leave legislation, into law. Effective January 1, 2024, SB 616 extends the existing paid sick leave entitlements to employees who are covered under the Healthy Workplaces, Healthy Families Act of 2014 (HWHFA). In anticipation of the upcoming changes, we have compiled a list of key highlights to help California employers assess their sick leave policies and procedures.
