In this final part of the webinar recap series on Governance: A Fresh Take for Contingent Workforce Leaders, we bring the conversation full circle, focusing on how to assess your current governance posture, align stakeholders, and take focused, practical action.

For many organizations, governance appears to be working because things are happening. Roles are being filled. Contractors are onboarded. Work is moving forward. But Cindy Baker-Bailey, VP of Global Workforce Solutions at Atrium, challenged that assumption with a critical distinction: “Activity doesn’t always mean effectiveness.”

Taking action starts with an honest assessment of where the program actually stands. That includes evaluating role clarity, process consistency, compliance posture, data integrity, and stakeholder engagement. Without this baseline, teams risk investing time and energy in the wrong places.

“You can’t improve what you can’t measure,” Cindy noted. Visibility and the willingness to confront gaps are essential.

Chris Radvansky, Principal Consultant at RAD Consultants, reinforced the importance of anchoring that assessment in purpose. “Begin with your why,” he said. “What are you trying to achieve? And what do you definitely not want to do?” Clear goals help companies prioritize the highest risk and highest value areas instead of trying to fix everything at once.

Of course, governance maturity doesn’t happen overnight. It’s iterative, not a one-time exercise. The panel agreed that reusable tools, clear templates, and consistent enablement make progress sustainable as programs scale or evolve. As Brad Martin, CRO at Atrium, summarized it best: “This isn’t a one-and-done. It’s something you refine as your program grows and changes.”

When organizations assess honestly, align intentionally, and take focused action, governance becomes a lever for long-term success.
